Where does the 0.25 come from? It currently runs a 45 LED
string. This is why I suggested a 5V supply (you need at least 5V, any less and you won't get 3.3V), because it only needs to discard 1.7V.

LARGE RGB LEDs are even more fun, but with their funky current requirements, you usually have to pick and tune transistors to make it suitable for your project. Just hard to know where to start when there are so many ways to execute a simple project.
