why were so few packages updated for xorg 7.0 -> 7.1 upgrade? My laptop has an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 (RV350 M10) on board, which works fine under Windows with 3D acceleration and under Linux without 3D acceleration. I'll hazard a guess that it's some fancy functionality that Intel onboard graphics don't provide.
incidentally, if you guys feel gentoo's not the right distro for cvs packages...

On recent Ubuntu versions (such as 10.04 LTS) this should work out of the box, and making modifications to xorg.conf may actually introduce unwanted artefacts. Before you make, you can edit the Mesa/configs/linux-dri file to choose only the driver for your card (saves loads of compilation time). I have an ATI Radeon 9800. then what/which distro is? i remember having to unmask a lot of packages to get modular X to install. NeverWinter Knights segfaults after I upgrade Mesa from CVS.
